Tactical Squad
Tactical Marines have training in both heavy weapons and close quarters combat, they're armed with bolters for ranged combat and a bolt pistol and combat blade. The Squad's Brother-Sergeant will usually be armed with a chainsword, power weapon, or combi-weapon. Earning 150 xp while in any model (Apothecary, Chaplain, Lt, etc) can permanently give you access to one of their abilities that you can carry onto the next model you want to try into battle. You can become a Librarian that's served time as a Lt and unlocked his abilities.

Thus, Space Marine Battle Companies are frequently divided into two Battle demi-companies of 50 Astartes each in order to spread their forces across multiple combat zones.
